ed, you're beginning to sound like bob ryan, but you don't have the excuse of being senile. I'm confused by your pessimism. However, let me revise christian's statement briefly: matty and I could win the east with these three, you guys would just be toast.

oh and by the way, wasn't it the tigers of detroit who went from second worst to best in their league in one year?

Eddy you and I could play the 1 and 5 with KG Allen and Pierce and win the East. Come on.

Lebron went to the finals by himself with a dude named Booby that nobody had ever heard of before. And also, when have the Celtics done something like this before? Yes, a few weeks ago this team was a team full of bums like Sebastian Telfair and Gerald Green, now it's a team with three unselfish top 15 players in it's starting lineup. You cannot tell me that you think Al Jefferson is going to ever become as good as Garnett is or was, his ceiling is Elton Brand, not KG. Keeping Gomes would have been nice because he's a good role player and can benefit from having a lot of talent around him but again, if it's between keeping the role player or grabbing the first ballot hall of famer then I think the answer is extremely simple.

That being said, this team's bench and overall depth is very poor right now. Rondo is the only PG and Perkins is the only 5. PJ Brown and Brevin Knight are probably the two best FA's out there right now in those two respective positions, and thankfully having 3 first-teamers like we do will most certainly attract that sort of veteran fringe talent that may or may not be just out ring chasing at this latter point of their careers. I think Brown could really help us, the backup PG situation is a little less important to me because Allen Garnett and Pierce can all bring the ball up and run an offense from the half-court set.

Basically Ed, do you think this team would be better off with Al, Green, Telfair and Gomes? Should we have asked for more from Minnesota? I personally think we got away with murder on this trade, but I suppose to each his own.

Nice work, Matty. Summed up a lot of good points, I think you could have maybe also included some mention of Ainge's master plan and if this was really it all along.

i hate to say it but the orgasmic jubilation of bostonians is a little embarrassing. it's an indictment on society and the media that we are all so shortsighted in regards to the past and the future. you ARE talking about a team that last week was to even the most die hard celtics fan a bunch of bums, lead by the most incompetent coach/GM tandem in sports. now with one signing these guys are fast-tracked to the finals? i just don't buy it. you never see a team go from worst to first in one season in sports, and while this is a good signing, a little moderation is called for. last i checked basketball was a five man sport, and the celts have pushed all in with yes a strong hand but one that will not improve, while there are still draws out on the board. this kind of aggressive move reeks of desperation, and bostonians are falling for it hook line and sinker. again i don't say that this isnt the best thing that could have happened to the C's, but let's keep in perspective where we've come from, that NO team in the east stacks up with the top 3 or 4 in the West, and that the banner isn't hanging yet.

And this mandates a "Celtics" link in your beats section. Get on that son. The C's are the new Sox (not really).

Yes, chemistry and egos will are the only thing that can stop this trio from hanging more banners. So with 5 seconds left on the clock, who gets the rock?
