The Yankees need a few more good arms. I was surprised they didn\'t make a move for one before the trade deadline.

No love for the Rockies? I gotta say Matty, I've got a lot to dispute with you here, it would take a while to get to it all actually but for the moment I have to wonder where the love for the Rocks is? Their lineup is easily the class of the NL, they don't just have big hitters, they have young big hitters all of whom just so happen to be hitting their primes. They could lose Helton for the season and still have a 2-3-4-5 of Tulowitzki/Holliday/Atkins/Hawpe. They're not as good as Detroit but I could definitely see them jumping out to a big lead over LA and not giving it up.

Also with Arizona it seems like you didn't take into account guys like Chris Young, Eric Byrnes, Stephen Drew, and Conor Jackson progressing much. Also, that rotation isn't just Webb anymore, Danny Haren is in there now as well as Doug Davis who certainly isn't going to set the world on fire but he's a decent veteran lefty and certainly a formidable #3-#4 starter. I feel you on the bullpen most definitely, I just think you're overlooking how much better the lineup will be this year not to mention their rotation.

I can also only assume that your pick of the Amazins this season is an attempt to use the Ballgame jinx (see: Bowl XLII, Super) to both the advantage of the Red Sox as well as to the disadvantage of NY...... and if that's true than nicely done Matthew, very sly.

08 prognostications:

AL playoff teams: sox, yanks (wc), mariners, tigers
NL playoff teams: mets, cubs, d-backs, padres (wc)

WS: sox over mets in 6.

ok good points, especially the joba + mariano combo at the end of games and how important that will actually be. that may sway may into picking the yanks as the wild card after all.
anyway, allow me to refute some points...
1.) i see the d-backs gettin back in the playoffs...u underestimate the lethal combo of webb and haren. and i think either tony pena or brandon lyon can fill in for valverde pretty nicely.
2.) d-lowe = consistent? naah guy.
3.) yanks? fine. those losers prob will make the playoffs.
4.) sox are winning 99.
5.) mets are the best team in NY/NL. but...

if the sox make the world series (and they will), they will win.
